In order to become a licenced pharmacist in Canada, one has to obtain a Bachelor’s of Pharmacy (BPharm). Roger Tam obtained his degree from the University of Toronto. He became a member of the Ontario College of Pharmacists and the Canadian and Ontario Pharmacists Associations.

Mr. Tam then obtained his law degree from the University of Western Ontario. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations, and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada.



In-Service Training

To become a full-fledged pharmacist in Canada, you must no only receive a BPharm from one of the 10 Canadian Universities that offer it, but you must also complete an apprenticeship/intern program to acquire the necessary practical experience. The Canadian Association of Pharmacy Students and Interns (CAPSI) is an association of pharmacy students, pharmacy interns, and undergraduate pharmacy organizations across Canada that helps organize and promote internship opportunities and programs.

A similar 'internship' type program is part of the process of becoming a lawyer, as well. This is called an 'articling period,' and is a time of mentorship, long hours, and personal growth. As well, Hoffmann-La Roche mandates that it's employee's attend specific 'learning modules' that specifically deal with with personal and management skills. These include sessions on basic leadership skills, communication skills, media training, and effective coaching.
